Don’t feel you have to have already read Christmas Is Not Your Birthday to join WOW for a book discussion and hot chocolate bar Tuesday evening, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Soapstone. We have plenty of good excerpts to share, along with questions that will get our brains thinking differently about this year’s Christmas season.
And, of course, there is the hot chocolate bar to consider. Bring a stir-in if you like … whipped cream, peppermint sticks, shortbread, even Halloween Peeps will soften up in warm cocoa. (Four out of three scientists agree that people are more creative in environments where chocolate is consumed; don’t think God didn’t create it that way.)
Following the book discussion, we’ll toss out some of our favorite inexpensive but thoughtful gift ideas for exchanging with friends and family. I’ve heard a few of these already, and I’m not kidding when I tell you to be prepared to fire up the Notes app on your smart phone. You are going to want to jot these down.
At the end of the day … or evening, in this case … we want to find ways to re-route ourselves this Christmas season. We need to sit side-by-side and figure out some real ways to focus more on fulfilling what we might find on Jesus’ wish list rather than on the crazy mess we so often find on our own.
Lots of people in the Soapstone family are trying to figure out and prepare for a very special Christmas Eve gift, so if you can’t make this discussion be sure to join another. Just don’t expect hot chocolate and Peeps.
